Edenvale’s crime stats show a rise in house robberies

Edenvale experienced a significant increase in the number of house robberies (robbery at residential premises) with 119 cases reported in the most recent year.

Like most of the country, the Edenvale community joined in the discussions about the recently released crime statistics, especially those from Edenvale.

The statistics taking centre-stage were those from April 2013 to March 2014, compared to April 2014 to March 2015.

These were discussed at this week’s Edenvale Community PoliceForum.

Edenvale experienced a significant increase in the number of house robberies (robbery at residential premises) with 119 cases reported in the most recent year, resulting in an increase of 51 cases.

Theft out of, or from motor vehicles, increased by 77 cases (339 to 416).

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs increased by 91 cases (216 to 307).

The number of murders increased from two to four.

Decreases

Burglary at residential premises decreased, with 44 less cases reported when compared to the previous year (311 down to 267).

Common assault decreased from 163 in the previous year to 111, resulting in a total drop of 52 cases.

The number of carjackings also decreased by 12, with 34 cases reported, as opposed to 46 the previous year.

At the ECPF meeting, Colonel Eddie Trollip from the Edenvale SAPS, said foreign businesses are targeted and the community needs to be alert for any suspicious vehicles, including a white Toyota Corolla that is believed to come from Tembisa and a gold GTI.
