Yeoville leads with murders in Joburg East area

The recent release of the crime statistics has shown a disturbing rise in numerous crimes.

Murder and sexual offenses increased in Yeoville for the past year, while carjacking and truck hijacking went up in the Cleveland SAPS and Jeppe SAPS precincts.

This was revealed by the crime statistic report tabled by the Minister of Police recently.

The stats showed that murder went up by 27 percent, while sexual offenses were up by 23 percent.

Attempted murder was down by 45 percent. Common robbery went up by eight percent and robbery with aggravating circumstances went down by eight percent.

Car hijacking increased by 43 cases, while truck hijacking only increased by one case.

In Jeppe, murder offenses reportedly down by 8 percent, while sexual offenses decreased by three percent.

Common robbery offenses rose by more than 18 percent, while robbery with aggravating circumstances went up by more than 21 percent.

Carjacking increased by 178 cases this financial year, while truck hijacking cases rose by 66 cases.

In the Cleveland SAPS precinct, common robbery increased by 54 percent while robbery with aggravating circumstances increased by 20 percent.

Sexual offenses decreased by 23 percent, while murder offenses were down by nine percent.

Car and truck hijacking offenses are up by more than 100 percent.

Robbery at residential premises is down by nine percent.
