Owner wonders where her lost dog may be

Not knowing what has happened to her in the end is devastating.

An elderly Edenvale resident is still searching for her dog after her car was stolen with the dog inside.

Ms Eunice Hosking’s car was stolen outside the Van Riebeeck Mall on October 13. She stopped to buy a few groceries and left her dog Mirrie, a Maltese, in the car.

A friend of Ms Hosking, Ms Sue Mcnulty, previously told the NEWS that Mirrie was her only companion.

“Miss Hosking was not doing too well after the incident as she has no family and only has Mirrie as a companion,” said Ms Mcnulty.

Ms Hosking said she has always loved dogs.

“Growing up with my parents we had many dogs and after my last dog was euthanized, it was too upsetting to get another one. Shortly after my dad died, my mom and I decided to get a new dog,” she said.

Ms Hosking said she never married and she has no children as circumstances have made it that way. She said Mirrie was her everything.

“For many years I have been by myself and after the news about Mirrie, family members have reached out to me,” she said.

She said she was part of the Animal Anti-Cruelty organisation and was looking for a dog.

They told her that they have Mirrie but she had limited time.

“They told me that Mirrie has one eye and I said I did not want a blind dog – but I would love to have her. The day I fetched her I cried when I saw her.

“I named her Mirrie because a woman named Mirriam use to look after her,” said Ms Hosking.

She said she has lived by herself for many years and has made many friends when she took Mirrie to the park.

She met Ms Mcnulty when she was in the Linksfield Clinic.

“Sue’s mom was laying in the bed beside me and I asked her what her name was. We did not recognise each other until we spoke and realised we use to attend Jeppe Quandom 60 years ago. Sue’s mom died shortly after and I became granny Eunice to her family,” she said.

Ms Hosking said that Sue’s family have searched high and low for Mirrie, but with no luck.

“Not knowing what has happened to her in the end is devastating. Mirrie is in God’s hands and I will be happy if I could find her. One evening I fell on the floor at home and could not pick myself up. Mirrie stayed by my side and licked me until Sue’s helper found me 15 hours later,” she said

Ms Hosking said she is moving to Edenhaven Retirement Village soon.

“I would have moved to Edenhaven long ago but I stayed in order to keep Mirrie. The matron of the home said that if Mirrie is found she can visit me at any time and as much as I like,” she said.

Ms Hosking is still appealing to the community for help in the hope that she will find her dog.

“I will not give up. I would be distraught if Mirrie died with me but now I’ll always wonder what happened to her,” she said.

Mirrie is a white female Maltese with one eye. She responds to her name and was recently groomed. If anyone has seen, her contact Ms Sue Mcnulty on 082 990 4191 or Ms Eunice Hosking on 079 426 9765. There is a reward available for anyone who brings Mirrie home.
