Criminals target Edenvale businesses

House robberies have also increased.

Businesses in the Edenvale CBD are being targeted.

According to the Edenvale SAPS acting spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, criminals are targeting businesses in the Edenvale area.

He said that while people should be aware of their surroundings, they should also take note of their clients’ behaviour.

“Business owners need to be aware of customers roaming around the shop and displaying suspicious behavior,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He said house robberies have also increased and domestic workers are being targeted.

“Home owners need to ensure that their domestic workers are safe and that they know what to do in emergency situations. Residents should also ensure that their alarm systems are working,” said Lt Col Roberts.

He warned that suspicious vehicles should be reported immediately and residents should know their neighbours.

He said many arrests were made and of those, some of the security guards were involved in the robberies.

Lt Col Roberts said six arrests were made and the suspects have already appeared in court. In addition, drug-related arrests were also made, mostly in the CBD.

“The value of the drugs amounted to about R20 000. One suspect was arrested with drugs to the value of R15 000,” said Lt Col Roberts.

In a separate case, Sergeant Ulandi Mouton held a school drug search operation. No drugs were found.

However, the scent of the dagga was present in some of the school bags.
