Armed robbers get 25 years in jail

He was carrying an undisclosed amount of money when he was shot in the spinal cord and robbed of his money.

Goodman Xolani Khatya and Siboniso Nzama were sentenced to 25 years each in prison for armed robbery and attempted murder.

Their sentences follow an incident in December 2010, which left a businessman wheelchair-bound.

The two men approached a foreign national businessman who was exiting the Nedbank in Doornfontein.

He was carrying an undisclosed amount of money when he was shot in the spinal cord and robbed of his money.

According to the Jeppe SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi, Khatya was arrested at the scene after police officers who were passing by saw him running away from the scene.

Nzama was arrested months later, after investigations. The victim was taken to hospital and is now wheelchair-bound.
