Court sentences murderers to life

Magubane was further sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder, three years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and two years for the possession of ammunition.

The sentencing took place in the Palm Ridge High Court.

On December 9, 2011, Magubane visited Mr Dladla in Jeppestown, were he stayed with his girlfriend and two-year-old child.

Magubane phoned Mr Dladla to meet him outside and Mr Dladla did as requested.

After a few minutes, the girlfriend heard gunshots and saw Mr Dladla running into the house. Magubane chased him and fired another shot that killed him.

Magubane also fired shots at the deceased’s girlfriend.

He was arrested three years later.

In a separate case, the same court sentenced Sabani Dladla (28), Elvis Madlala (21) and Ntombifuthi Ngubane (41) to life in prison for murder after a year on the run.

Sabani and Elvis shot and killed 71-year-old Ms Gloria Sithole when they visited her home at the Kwa Mai-Mai hostel, where she lived with her 13 year old granddaughter.

The two entered the home, shooting Ms Sithole in the stomach.

Ms Sithole was taken to hospital but died on arrival.

Her granddaughter was unharmed as she managed to hide behind a cupboard. According to Dladla and Madlala, Ngubane sent them to kill the woman as she was a business rival at Kwa Mai-Mai hostel.

The men were each sentenced for murder as well as eight years for attempted murder, five years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and three years for the possession of ammunition.
