The firearm was stolen after the officer forgot the firearm in the bathroom.

Five people were arrested yesterday after a Metropolitan Police firearm was stolen from a bathroom in Klipriver on Monday.

The Yeoville SAPS communications officer, Constable Thabo Malatji, said the officer forgot the firearm in the bathroom at the petrol station.

It is believed three women then stole the firearm.

“The three were driving with one male. They fled the scene in their car immediately. The investigation led the police to a flat in Yeoville. The four suspects were subsequently arrested. They showed the police to whom they had sold the firearm. This person was also arrested,” said Const Malatji.

He said the firearm’s serial number was filed off when it was recovered.

The man and the women will appear in the Klipriver Magistrate’s Court. The man who bought the firearm will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon

“The four will be facing cases of theft, while the other suspect is facing a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” Const Malatji.
