Local gymnasts excel

The event held on August 15 in Springs was the precursor to the regional Eastern Gauteng Acrobatic Championships, which is a qualifier for the annual SA Gymnastics Games.

Acrobatic and trampoline gymnasts, from the Edenvale-based Gym Masters Gymnasts and Masters Gymnasts clubs, took part in the Springs Stars Acrobatic and Gauteng Provincial Trampoline Championships in August.

For the acrobats, the event held on August 15 in Springs was the precursor to the regional Eastern Gauteng Acrobatic Championships, which is a qualifier for the annual SA Gymnastics Games.

Of the 14 pairs and groups that represented the local clubs, 10 won their categories, while the other four were runners up.

For the trampolinists, the Gauteng Provincial Championships was a qualifying event to the North Zone event, which brings together the best trampolinists from the five northern-most provinces of South Africa. Most of the trampolinists competed in both the Double-Mini and Euro trampoline events, in various levels and age groups. As the gymnasts represented the Eastern Gauteng team, they receive regional colours for their accomplishments.

The gymnasts train at the Highway Gardens Community Centre and are coached by the Demianenko family together with Ms Michelle Sharples, Ms Sarah Tyler and Ms Chloe Metcalfe.

Training takes place at the Highway Gardens Community Centre.
