Painter shows his love for found objects.

Professional painter displays his unique taste in art.

Mr John Robbertse, a painter who obtained his degree at the University of Tswane, hosted a demonstration at the Edenvale Community Centre on August 15.

“The Paint & Palette Group tries to promote fine art in the community. We invite professional or popular painters to host demonstrations once a month,” said Mr Terry Baker, a member of the Paint & Palette Group.

Mr Baker said Paint & Palette is a non-profit organisation and is a group of volunteers who take the time to learn new ways of painting.

Mr Robbertse, who was the guest of honor at the event, said he tries to make realistic oil paintings on objects such as teaspoons and antique tea cups.

“People are amazed when they see my canvas is a teaspoon. It takes patience and concentration to paint a teaspoon,” said Mr Robbertse.

He said his lecturer in university, Mr Jan Van der Merwe, was his inspiration and is a big influence in what he does.

Ms Engela Notnagel, who attended the demonstrations, said she is a self-taught painter and enjoys seeing a variety of styles and canvases.

“I paint on a large canvas. I love attending these demonstrations because it is enlightening,” she said.

The community is welcome to attend the demonstrations, which are held once a month at the Edenvale Community Centre.
