Mayoral office responds to DA challenge.

The Mayor’s office accepted the DA’s challenge. Ward councilors, Clr Heather Hart and Clr Bill Rundle, recently issued a statement calling the executive mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele to inspect the state of Edenvale’s roads.

Four mayoral representatives visited Edenvale, along with Clr Rundle, on Friday.

In articles published recently by the NEWS, the ward councillors raised concerns about the current state of roads in Edenvale.

The Mayor was requested to come and see for himself to ensure that the municipality takes immediate action to fix the roads in Edenvale.

Both councillors said in a press statement, “In response to our concerns, the metro spokesperson Mr Themba Gadebe, stated that Edenvale had benefitted extensively from road rehabilitation. He was also quoted as saying, ‘In the absence of specifics such as road names, addresses and so forth, it is not possible to comment sensibly on the pothole matter’.

“For instance, some potholes are caused by water leaks, others by trenches that were dug. A simple drive through the streets of Edenvale reveals that Mr Gadebe does not have a clue about the true state of affairs of roads in the area,” said the councillors.

The councillors wanted to make the following points known:

The homestead at Horwood’s Farm, a provincial heritage site which has been allowed to go to rack and ruin.

Mr Zweli Dlamini, the mayoral spokesperson, said following the viewing of Edenvale’s roads last week, Mr Mabitsela will be compiling a report. He will then have a meeting with the relevant bodies in order to find solutions to the problems.

“We encourage more members of the community to bring up any issues regarding service delivery and report it to the municipality,” said Mr Dlamini.

“We rely on members of the community because the municipality cannot be everywhere. The community therefore becomes our eyes and ears,” he said.
