18 years in prison for armed robbery

They were arrested in Rocky Street after a robbery at Nedbank.

The Johannesburg High Court has sentenced two men to 18 years imprisonment for armed robbery.

According to the Jeppe SAPS communications officer, W/O Richard Munyayi, Goodman Khatya and Siboniso Nzama were arrested in December 2012.

The police were driving along Siemert Street in Doornfontein when they stopped at a traffic light, at the corner of Rocky Street, opposite the bank.

“When the officers stopped, they heard a gunshot and saw a man running across the road. The suspect was carrying a bag and was followed by another suspect carrying a firearm.

“The police exited the car and chased the suspects. They managed to arrest the suspect carrying the firearm.

“They found a 9mm pistol with nine live rounds in his possession,” said W/O Munyayi.

A victim was shot and injured during the robbery. The victim was transported to the Milpark Hospital.
