Mpho still critical

Mpho Mudau is still in a coma, 15 days after the accident.

“When I arrived, my boy was lying on the road. Bleeding from his nose, mouth and ears. He was not moving.”

This statement was made by Mrs Melanie Africa when she spoke to the EXPRESS about Mpho Mudau.

The EXPRESS previously reported that Mpho was injured when he was hit by two vehicles as he was jumping off a truck on Eight Street and 10th Avenue in Bez Valley on August 1.

“I could see that he had head injuries and his feet were broken. What hurts most is there was nothing much we could do,” said Mrs Africa.

The Jeppe Community Police Forum (JCPF) is currently raising funds to assist with Mpho’s medical care.

Mrs Africa said on the day of the incident, Mpho left home with his brother and three friends.

“I told them I would go and check on them because I knew where they were going. After some time, his brother and another friend came back saying they were hungry. They said Mpho and the other friends were still playing,” she said.

Mrs Africa said about 15 minutes later another friend came running.

“He was screaming and crying, saying Mpho is dead. I dropped everything and ran. I found people giving him first aid. It was shocking. We had to try and keep the air flow clear. That was all we could do,” she said.

She said Mpho has been in the ICU since then.

“At present he is in the ICU. We do not know when he will recover. At present, even the doctors do not know whether he will fully recover. We can only pray that God heals him,” said Mrs Africa.

She said she would know what Mpho wants once he is out of ICU.

“He loved his soccer. I hope plays it again. He now needs prayers,” said Mrs Africa.

On August 19, the Jeppe CPF Sector 1 will hold a meeting to address the safety of children along Albertina Sisulu Road.
