Parents of children attending the school said they have complained about this vehicle on different occasions, stating the vehicle is a threat to their children's safety.

A nanny died when a waste collector allegedly misjudged the wall at Edenglen Primary School. Ms Beauty Makhoba a nanny was caught between the collapsed wall and the pillar.

Edenvale SAPS has since confirmed officers are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

“The accident happened yesterday afternoon, just before the final bell rang,” said principal from Edenglen Primary School, Ms Rademan.

Parents of children attending the school said they have complained about this vehicle on different occasions, stating the vehicle is a threat to their children’s safety.

“Yesterday the driver bumped the gate which caused the wall to collapse on Ms Makhoba. The school had been in touch with the driver previously, and we told him he has to leave the property before the children are dismissed,” said Ms Rademan.

Ms Makhoba had been waiting to collect her employer’s children and escort them safely to their home across from the school.

“When I heard about the accident, we contacted the ambulance. We also advised the teachers not to dismiss the children due to an emergency. Ms Makhoba had no external bleeding but was bleeding from her mouth,” said Ms Rademan.

“Some of the people on-scene had managed to lift the wall. We had placed her in a recovery position. One of the parents held Beauty’s head and I held her feet in order for her not to move. The ambulance arrived fairly quickly but she had already died because I could not feel a pulse,” she said.

The principle expressed their condolences to the family of Ms Makhoba.
