Empowerment by Ekurhuleni for the youth, women and people with disabilities.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) unveiled its plans for a R2,9-billion youth fund.

The EMM made the announcement regarding the Youth Empowerment Fund during the Ekurhuleni Mayoral Youth Indaba, which was held last week.

The EMM’s executive mayor, Clr Mondli Gungubele, said that from July 1, R2,9-billion of procurement value will be ring-fenced for businesses owned by the youth, women and people with disabilities; black

industrialists and community job creation initiatives.

“At least 1 190 youth-owned businesses are set to benefit from the programme,” said Mr Themba Gadebe, the spokesperson and senior media manager for the EMM.

According to Mr Gadebe, the mayor also unveiled the roll-out of the Vukuphile Expanded Public Works Programme’s phase three within the EMM.

“In the past three years, the EMM has developed 20 learner contractors in the construction industry through the incubation programme. This group has now graduated and each company has implemented projects to the tune of at least R7-million each,” said Mr Gadebe.
