New walkway upgrade on Harris Rd

New walkway for residents.

The sidewalk on Harris Road, towards the Betchana taxi rank, was recently dug up following the paving that was included in the ward 18 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) three years ago.

This was at the request of pedestrians walking to and from the rank.

According to Clr Heather Hart, at the time the property owners queried why previous paving had ended at Wagenaar Road.

“While this is a drop in the ocean with regard to the required walkways in ward 18 and indeed infrastructure maintenance and development is concerned, I felt it was something that would be a good use of ratepayers’ money,” said Clr Hart.

“Our request was for paving all the way to the R25 on both sides of Laurie Road, as well as a strip on Palliser Road. Unfortunately, ward 18 was only allocated 1.1 kilometres of paving in all for the moment. The project is scheduled for completion towards the end of August,” she said.

Ratepayers are welcome to send suggestions for the 2016/17 IDP to Clr Hart at hhart@netactive.co.za for consideration by the ward 18 ward committee.
