Man arrested for Edenvale businessman’s 2010 murder

The man was due to appear in court on Thursday last week but was admitted to hospital the night before when he attempted suicide.

The man accused of killing Edenvale businessman Mr Louis Deneeghere in 2010 was recently arrested by the Boksburg North SAPS.

He was arrested in connection with another murder charge but during questioning, he admitted to taking the life of Mr Deneeghere.

The man was due to appear in court on Thursday last week but was admitted to hospital the night before when he attempted suicide.

He was due to face charges of murder, robbery, residential burglary, kidnapping and possession of an unlicensed firearm relating to the Deneeghere case.

The case against the man was postponed to August 6.

In the September 29, 2010, edition of the NEWS, it was reported that Mr Deneeghere was reported missing.

The spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Warrant Officer Jean Olckers, told the NEWS that Mr Deneeghere had disappeared under suspicious circumstances.

Mr Deneeghere, a duel South African/French citizen, was last seen at the Morningside Country Club on September 18, 2010.

His vehicle, a white Volvo station wagon, was found abandoned in Cleveland on September 21, 2010.

A month later, Mr Deneeghere’s body was found in a field near Sebokeng with a gunshot wound.

Investigating officer, Captain John Jones, has previously dealt with high-profile Edenvale cases, including the double murder of Edenvale residents, Mr Philip Jackson and Mr Dillyn Elsley, in 2011.

Earnest Mashu and Thabo Mokgotho were each handed two life sentences for their role in the double murder of Mr Jackson and Mr Elsley on February 23, 2011, at the Jackson’s Sixth Avenue house.

The pair were also each given a 20 year sentence on a charge of robbery with aggravated circumstances and declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Speaking to the NEWS in 2014, after the sentencing of Mashu and Mokgothu, Capt Jones said he was happy with the sentences handed down.

At the time of Mr Deneeghere’s disappearance and the subsequent discovery of his body, Capt Jones was assigned the case.

When he was transferred to the Sebenza SAPS, as the stations head of detectives, Capt Jones took the case with him.

The cases again travelled with Capt Jones when he was transferred to the Norkem Park Police Station, where he is currently stationed.
