SAB gives back to Nazareth

The South African Breweries (SAB) has activated a nationwide mission to offer up time and services towards a series of good causes during international Nelson Mandela Day.

As part of the offer, the SAB visited Nazareth Home in Yeoville on July 17.

SAB employees, together with the general manager Mr Richard Rivette-Carnac, rolled up their sleeves to serve.

The good deeds for the day included painting, helping in the kitchen, cleaning and sorting clothes in the charity store.

They also donated four industrial sewing machines, clothes and other necessities that the house needs.

“We support charities that run development programmes for women, youth and people with disabilities, and charities that support healthcare and HIV/Aids programmes,” said Mr Rivett-Carnac.

The Yeoville SAPS, together with the Yeoville Youth Crime Prevention Desk, were part of the group to offer helping hands on the day.

Chairperson of the youth crime prevention desk, Ms Lerato Maoka, said it was important for the youth to give back some of their time and to serve those who cannot help themselves.

“I’m happy to be here with my peers to help Nazareth as we know the wonderful work they do and we know that offering our help on international Nelson Mandela Day goes a long way,” said Ms Maoka.

The youth crime prevention desk also received a donation from the SAB, which included reflective vests.

Nazareth Home’s senior fundraiser said the poverty alleviation and community development project was established in 2001 in response to a number of destitute and poor people infected and affected by HIV/Aids in Johannesburg and the surrounding areas.

The centre also offers skills development and income-generating projects of sewing, beading and selling second hand items.
