Residents team up to clear out reserve

The Bedfordview Community Policing Forum (BCPF) partnered with stakeholders in law enforcement to conduct a major sweep of the Bill Stewart Nature Reserve.

The Bedfordview Community Policing Forum (BCPF) partnered with stakeholders in law enforcement to conduct a major sweep of the Bill Stewart Nature Reserve.

The operation, which took place last Thursday, saw four men being taken into the police station for questioning.

Those involved also included the Primrose CPF, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), Top Security, SESS and T2.

Also present were Mamba Security, Trium Consulting and the Ekurhuleni Peace Cops (patrollers).

On the mountain, the teams split into groups and searched the mountain.

Various items, including unopened mail with Bedfordview addresses, were found.

“We also found purses, handbags and television decoders,” said the BCPF’s Mr Tyrone Clark.

From the mountain top, there was also evidence of areas used as viewing decks over Kloof Road.

The Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said the SAPS is hard at work to police the area and to ensure the public feels safe when walking up and down the mountain to get to work.

Residents also called for the Morninghill mountain to be swept as well.

“It is no secret that Morninghill is targeted by criminals who sit at the top of the mountain, observing residents’ movements in order to strike. So we would appreciate it if our law enforcement agencies would conduct the same clean up of our mountain, said a resident along Fouche Terrace.

The BCPF chairperson, Mr Gavin Henry, thanked everyone involved in making the clean up a success.
