Criminals take off with Rosary

Ms Diana Baker is appealing to the community to help find her Rosary, which was stolen during a smash-and-grab incident.

Ms Elvira Rohrbeck is appealing to the community to help find her aunt’s Rosary and to return it to her.

Ms Rohrbeck said the Rosary was taken during a smash-and-grab incident on July 13 while her aunt was on her way home.

The Rosary was given to her aunt almost 60 years ago. She said her aunt received it on the day of her First Holy Communion on December 8, 1955, in Lourdes, France.

Ms Rohrbeck said the incident occurred at 6pm at the traffic light along Club Street in Huddle Park, travelling towards Edenvale.

Even though her aunt has an anti smash-and-grab film on her car windows, the suspect managed to push the entire window out which hit her aunt in the face, cutting her lip and neck. Her handbag, containing her ID, drivers licence, purse, cards, keys, and the Rosary, were all taken.

Ms Rohrbeck said, “The Rosary is off-white, small, with slightly elongated beads on metal links with a silver crucifix. It was in a small off-white leather purse.”

“She has had it on her ever since. Her parents who gave it to her have since passed away and it has huge sentimental value,” said Ms Rohrbeck.

Ms Rohrbeck said the matter was reported to the Norwood Police Station.

She urged anyone who may find the Rosary to come forward.
