Avalon residents enjoy special treat

Ocean Basket, in the Eastgate Shopping Centre, celebrated Mandela Day by spoiling residents from the Avalon Home for Disabled Persons in Kensington.

Ms Nhlahla Jordan, the general manager at Avalon, said South Africa is reminded of what Madiba stood for on his birthday.

“It is so important to give and think of the next person before ourselves,” said Ms Jordan.

She said celebrating July 18 shows that Madiba’s legacy will live on, even beyond the grave.

Mr Nkosi Ncube, from Ocean Basket, said Avalon residents are regular shoppers at Eastgate.

“We often see some of the residents. They support us so the team and I have decided to give back to the Avalon residents for our 67 minutes,” said Mr Ncube.
