No information on the cause of water outage in Founders View South

The Founders View South community is still in the dark about what caused a water interruption in the area about a week ago.

The Founders View South community is still in the dark about what caused a water interruption in the area about a week ago.

Ms Paula Coito, who runs a factory in the area, said their taps ran dry on July 15 until July 21.

“We haven’t had water since Wednesday last week. I have logged a complaint and phoned the call centre three to four times a day. I have phoned the Depot but every time I have been referred to different people,” said Ms Coito.

She said she was first told it was the reservoir that was empty, then she was told it was the pipe that was full of sand and eventually she was told it was Rand Water’s fault.

“Not one of these entities have even had the decency to think of sending a water tank. I think that is unacceptable. How do you tell a factory of 20 employees or more that they cannot use the toilet because there’s no water?” she asked.

Ward councillor Bongani Nkomo said he was notified of the issue on Friday, July 17, and immediately contacted Joburg Water to get the matter sorted out.

“In my interaction with Joburg Water, they were still trying to diagnose the problem. It was eventually discovered that the issue was in Edenvale, which is under Ekurhuleni, but was affecting residents in the City of Johannesburg,” said Clr Nkomo.

Clr Nkomo said even though the issue was resolved, no one was able to give him concrete reasons as to what caused the water outage.

The NEWS sent an inquiry to Rand Water on July 22 and requested comment by July 23.

At the time of going to print, no comment had been received.
