Chinese official arrested for running illegal immigration office

The Chinese national was found with original Home Affairs documents in Bruma.

The Hawks arrested a Chinese national yesterday for running an illegal immigration office.

The man, aged 36, was arrested in Bruma shortly after 11am.

“We are investigating the possible involvement of a Home Affairs official as the suspect had original documents. These documents are not accessible to anyone to except officials. Other documents from SARS and the SAPS were found during his arrest,” said the Hawks spokesperson, Mr Hangwani Mulaudzi.

He said two South Africans who were found at the premises have not yet been arrested.

“We are still investigating their involvement. More people may still be arrested,” said Mr Mulaudzi.
