Perfume stolen after shootout

Nine spent cartridges from a 9mm pistol and 11 spent cartridges from an R5 rifle were found at the scene of the shootout.

The Bedfordview SAPS confirmed it is investigating a case of business burglary after an unknown number of suspects broke into a store in Bedfordview.

The SAPS received a call around 4am on Friday notifying them of a burglary at the Village View Clicks store.

According to the Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, when the SAPS arrived at the scene, the suspects opened fire.

“A shootout ensued, but the criminals managed to escape,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

He said the criminals made off with bottle of perfume from the store.

“They drove off in a black 7 Series BMW, which the police are now still looking for. We also appeal to members of the public to notify the police should they see the car,” he said.

Nine spent cartridges from a 9mm pistol and 11 spent cartridges from an R5 rifle were found at the scene of the shootout.

The Bedfordview SAPS station commander, Colonel Sevha Shiburi, said his station is hard at work and will win the fight against follow-home robberies from a coffee shop at the same shopping centre.

“We have intelligence on the ground, including undercover police to address complaints from residents being followed home from Tashas and then being robbed of their belongings,” said Col Shiburi.

He said the victims of follow-home robberies from the cafe were often targeted for their expensive jewellery.

At the time of going to press, no arrests had been made.

Sgt Nhlabathi said investigations are still underway.
