Elandspark School in Bedfordview was recently given a donation of R16 000.

The money is to assist the school with developing a gymnasium.

The donation, made by the Eastgate Shopping Centre, was raised from the centre’s ‘photos with Santa’, run in the lead up to the festive season in 2014.

The school is a special needs school with an aim is to equipping pupils with practical skills through vocational training to use in the real world.

Ms Louise Duvenhage, the school’s marketing coordinator, said the school was in the process of developing a gymnasium for the use of sport development with pupils.

“Bullying is a huge problem in many schools, therefore we would be able to eliminate it by having pupils working together with the relevant educators in the gymnasium,” she said.

Mr Tshepo Monnamoroe, the operations manager at the centre, thanked shoppers for their contributions in the ‘photos with Santa’ campaign.

“We would like to thank all the shoppers who made use of this service as their contributions are truly making a difference in the lives of people in our community,” he said.
