Anthony Ehlers speaks at Writers2000 workshop

Members were given an opportunity to learn about the various points of view from which a story can be told.

Author and writing trainer Mr Anthony Ehlers conducted a workshop for members of Writers 2000 on June 27.

Ms Nicolette Bosman, the chairperson for Writers2000 said members were given an opportunity to learn about the various points of view from which a story can be told.

Viewpoint determines the distance between the reader and the narrator, as well as the narrator and the narrative. It can be used to displace and to manipulate the reader. Members spent the morning learning more about this topic and the techniques used by authors.

Mr Ehlers was also the speaker at the group’s meeting in the afternoon and shared his experiences as a writer and trainer. With more than 20 years’ experience in writing, Mr Ehlers is also a trainer at the Writers Write training school.

In 2010, his short story Limerence was a runner-up in the annual Woman & Home short story competition. In 2013, he was featured in the Bloody Satisfied anthology of South African crime writing and in the Adults Only anthology of hot, homegrown erotica in 2014.

In 2014, his short films were shortlisted for the Jameson First Shot competition, as well as the European Independent Film Festival.

Ms Bosman said Mr Ehlers has agreed to do another workshop in 2016.
