Delivery vehicle gets stuck in open manhole

The driver had missed a turn and attempted to turn around on the pavement. The driver's car became stuck in an open manhole on the pavement.

A driver from fast food delivery service was found stuck in an open manhole in Baker street, Edenvale, on July 6.

Motorist, Mr Mick Godfrey, offered his assistance to the driver who was on his way to make a delivery at Baker Estate.

The driver had missed a turn and attempted to turn around on the pavement. The driver’s car became stuck in an open manhole on the pavement.

According to Mr Godfrey, the manhole is two metres deep.

“I had to use a jack to lift the car up and place a ladder over the manhole in order to get the car out,” he said.

Mr Godfrey said his concern was for pedestrians, especially children, walking by the open manhole on a daily basis.

“If someone were to fall into the manhole they could be seriously injured,” said Mr Godfrey.

“I have also covered the manhole with signs, as a warning to pedestrians and other motor vehicles,” he said.

According to the ward councillor, Clr Heather Hart, open manholes are a problem in the Edenvale area.

“The manhole in Baker Road has been a problem for a while now,” said Clr Hart.
