Hijackers arrested in Yeoville

Yeoville police officers interrupted a hijacking and robbery which was taking place in Newtown.

A toy gun that is suspected to have been used to hijack a tobacco delivery vehicle in Newtown was recovered when six men were arrested in Yeoville this morning, shortly after 8am.

The Yeoville SAPS communications officer, Constable Thabo Malatji, said the suspects were found offloading the cargo from the delivery vehicle into a silver Toyota Quantum and Toyota Corolla, next to Arthur and Mons streets in Yeoville.

“The SAPS received information about the hijacking taking place. When we arrived, we found the suspects offloading cigarettes into the Toyota Quantum. They were all arrested,” he said.

He said a toy gun was recovered during the arrest.
