McKenzie again leads ECPF

New CPF elected.

The Edenvale Community Police Forum (ECPF) selected its new executive committee.

The Elections took place on Thursday night.

This followed the forum’s annual general meeting, which was held one week prior.

The nomination process had been completed and members were selected by the community.

According to Mrs Linda McKenzie, the executive committee shall have the right to co-opt any member of the ECPF into the committee for a period not longer than 90 days to fill a vacancy.

An election shall be held at executive level within 90 days to fill the vacancy.

The newly-elected committee and their positions are as follows:

Chairperson – Mrs Linda McKenzie is responsible for:

Presiding over meetings of the executive committee.

Ensuring the execution of all decisions of the executive committee and the ECPF.

Representing the ECPF as and when it is necessary.

Reporting regularly on the functioning of the ECPF to the SAPS Cluster commander and the Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) and provide feedback and directives to the ECPF.

Submitting reports reflective of the activities or the work of the ECPF.

Supervising all work of the ECPF in conformity with the constitution, the relevant legislation and procedures agreed upon by the ECPF

Vice Chairperson – Mr Prince Mathebula will be responsible for:

In the absence of the chairperson to act as the chairperson.

The deputy chairperson shall, in conjunction with the treasurer, ensure that the funds of the ECPF are administered in accordance with the policy of the ECPF, he will also prepare and circulate the annual report of the activities of the ECPF which will include the audited finance report.

Secretary – Mrs Annie Bell is responsible for:

Doing and compiling the minutes in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.

Receiving and dispatching correspondence to and from the ECPF.

Arranging all meetings in accordance with the meeting procedure.

Keeping originals of letters received and copies of letters dispatched and correspondence.

Performing official administrative functions normally associated with the office of the secretary.

Vice-secretary – Mrs Lesley Thomas will be responsible for:

In the absence of the secretary, to act as the secretary.

Together with the PRO, develop and manage the public relations of the ECPF.

Treasurer – (position to be announced) will be responsible for:

The finances of the ECPF and ensuring strict compliance with generally accepted accounting procedures.

Together with another designated member of the ECPF, operate a banking account on behalf of the ECPF.

Keep books of accounts and other records necessary to clearly reflect the financial position of the ECPF.

Table a financial report at every general meeting of the ECPF and annual financial report and budget at every annual general meeting.

Resident Sector 1 manager Mr Sean Vogt and deputy manager Mr Shane Woodward are responsible for:

creating sub-forums in sector 1 and assisting with two-way radios.

Attending these meetings and reporting back to the executive committee monthly

Creating a database of residents in the area.

Resident Sector 2 manager Mr Ian McKenzie, deputy manager Mr Prince Mathebula and Greenstone deputy manager Ms Kerry Glass are responsible for:

Creating sub-forums in sector 2 and assisting with two-way radios.

Attending these meetings and reporting back to the executive committee monthly.

Creating a database of residents in the area.

Resident Sector 3 manager Mr Sean Vogt is responsible for:

Creating sub-forums in sector 2 and assisting with two-way radios.

Attending these meetings and reporting back to the executive committee monthly.

Creating a database of residents in the area.

Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator and by-laws Mr Mike Bell is responsible for:

Co-coordinating varous neighbourhood watch groups for purposes of observation, inspection or security.

Recruitment of people for the neighbourhood watch.

Ad hoc law enforcement activities related to crime prevention.

Social crime prevention – Mrs Lesley Thomasis is responsible for:

Community-based crime prevention programmes, including those that operate within the community and that involve residents actively working with their local government agencies to address issues contributing to crime, delinquency, and disorder.

Youth and drugs (position to be announced), will be responsible for:

Researching the trends in the community.

Liaising with victim support at station level.

Planning programmes.

Public relations officer – Ms Joanne Taylor is responsible for:

Act as liaison between the board and the media.

Promote co-operation between the board and the community.

Promote awareness of community policing.
