Deceased suspects may be linked to more cases

Centurion suspects linked to Bedfordview and Yeoville robberies.

The two men killed during a recent shootout with the police in Pretoria have been linked to crimes in Bedfordview and Yeoville.

The shootout took place on June 21 when the SAPS followed up on a tip-off about criminals following people returning from OR Tambo International Airport and robbing them.

The suspects attempted to rob a Pretoria woman and her guests when the SAPS intervened.

A shootout ensued and two of the three suspects were killed. One was injured and is under police guard in hospital.

The SAPS communications officer, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo, said the deceased suspects have been linked to 16 cases, including some cases where people were robbed after returning from the airport.

According to Brig Naidoo, the men have been linked to incidents that took place in 2006 and 2013.

“One of the cases occurred in August 2013. Other cases linked to the suspects occurred in Yeoville, Bedfordview, Sandringham, Sandton and Rabbie Ridge,” said Brig Naidoo.

He said the suspect in hospital has not been linked to other cases but has been charged with two counts of murder, armed robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Brig Naidoo said the charges relate to Sunday’s incident.

The car the suspects used on the day of the shooting was reported as stolen in Pretoria East earlier this month.
