HIJACKING in Illiondale after victim ignores SAPS warning

A vehicle was hijacked in Illiondale, minutes after the SAPS warned the driver to move his car inside his property.

A vehicle was hijacked in Illiondale last night, minutes after the SAPS warned the driver to park inside the property.

A sector police vehicle was patrolling the area when the officers came across a vehicle parked in the driveway of a house.

“The officers spoke to the driver of the vehicle. The driver was told it was unsafe to park in the driveway as it could lead to a hijacking,” said the acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts.

The officers drove off and just 10 minutes later, a report of a hijacking was received.

“The hijacked vehicle belonged to the same person the officers had just warned,” said Lt Col Roberts.

“It is important that residents protect themselves from becoming victims of crime. Likewise, the community should listen to the SAPS when we try to keep them safe,” he said.
