The EXPRESS is awaiting confirmation from the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) that it is investigating complaints against the Avalon Home for the Disabled in Kensington.
The EXPRESS sent inquiries to the SAHRC and the Department of Health following reports by EWN that the home is under investigation by the SAHRC for human rights violations.
It has been reported that health officials have also visited the home.
It is alleged the investigation follows letters of complaint received by the SAHRC from Avalon residents.
The EXPRESS contacted the spokesperson for the SAHRC, Mr Isaac Mangena, to confirm the allegations.
The EXPRESS also contacted the Department of Health’s spokesperson, Mr Steve Mabona.
Both spokespersons said formal responses will be forwarded to the EXPRESS.
