Garbage collectors practice public indecency

Residents don't want their properties smelling of urine.

Residents in Edenvale are fed up with the public indecency displayed by municipal waste collectors in the Edenglen area.

“Upon collecting the garbage and throwing it onto the truck, the collectors stand and urinate against residents’ walls,” said Mr Vicki Austin.

“I have witnessed one of them urinating on someone’s wall whilst collecting garbage.

“These collectors should urinate at the depot before their route, or stop and ask to use the toilet used by the security guards at the booms.

“Our concerns are that we do not want our properties to smell of urine and we are uncomfortable with the lack of respect for personal space and privacy.”

Mr Austin is also concerned about the manner in which the refuse removal service is provided.

“I have seen the workers hanging off the truck whilst holding onto the wheelie bins and then flinging them away, whilst the truck is moving,” he said.

“This results in these expensive bins breaking and lying wherever they land, even in the road.

“The amount of waste in the street is unacceptable, and the truck also blocks traffic when it stops in the middle of the road.”

Mr Austin told the NEWS multiple emails have been sent to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) by residents reporting the urinating incidents.

“The residents are unhappy with previous apologies received from Ekurhuleni and have stated the simple ‘we are sorry’ is not good enough,” he said.

The NEWS requested comment from the EMM on June 18.

At the time of going to print, no comment had been received.

Other problems:

Garbage falls on the road & they leave it where it falls.

The truck stops in the middle of the road, to load bins & they

block traffic on both sides of the road.

Bins are left “doors” away.

I pay for this important service. I expect good service.
