House robbery gang member shot dead

The Bedfordview SAPS has confirmed the death of one of the men arrested in connection with the recent home invasions in the area.

The murder of one of the gang members arrested in connection with the recent home invasions in Bedfordview has left residents with mixed emotions.

Moses Maleka was allegedly shot and killed outside a night club in Marlboro during the first weekend in June.

The Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, confirmed that Maleka was one of the suspects arrested last month during an operation by the station’s detective unit, as well as the National and Provincial Crime Intelligence units.

The arrests came after police received a tip-off days after the gang robbed a home in Lavin Road, Bedfordview.

One suspect was arrested in Alexandra, another in Norkem Park.

The third was nabbed in Centurion and the fourth in Ga-Rankuwa.

Residents took to social media to express their feelings regarding Maleka’s murder.

One resident posted, “I feel that we are in a position, as the residents, where we have to somehow feel sorry that he was killed. I refuse to do that. It is said that if you live by the sword, you will die by the sword, maybe this is Karma.”

Although the men were granted R3 000 bail each, it was not known when their next court appearance would be.

Sgt Nhlabathi said investigations were still underway to ensure those responsible for the home invasions are brought to book.
