Art festival exposes pupils to new ideas

The school’s head of department of cultural co-curriculum, Ms Debbie Le Roux, said the entire school was involved in a variety of art activities on both days.

Sacred Heart College hosted a two-day Arts Festival recently.

The school’s head of department of cultural co-curriculum, Ms Debbie Le Roux, said the entire school was involved in a variety of art activities on both days.

“We had workshops where pupils danced, performed hip hop, acappela, drumming, acting workshops and art workshops. There was a wide variety of creative activities,” she said.

Various professionals were called in to facilitate the workshops.

“At end, we held a collaborative workshop to create a vertical garden. Each pupil has made a sculpture that will be planted against the wall,” said Ms Le Roux.

The school’s head of drama, Mrs Roslyn Wood-Morris, said the festival exposed pupils to other activities beyond academics.

“We were trying to exposed our pupils to an alternative curriculum. This had allowed them to explore their creativity and their individuality. Pupils explored the whole new set of skills,” she said.

Mrs Wood-Morris said the festival helped develop pupils’ self-confidence and opened their minds.

“It has been a fun-filled, creative and happy days,” said Mrs Wood-Morris.

“It was a space where pupils could be different. Pupils were able to experience alternative things, instead of sitting behind the desk. They experienced with their bodies and their voices,” said Ms Le Roux.
