Greenstone spreads the warmth

Greenstone Shopping Centre asked customers to help grow the annual blanket drive to include additional items to their collection of blankets.

Greenstone Shopping Centre asked customers to help grow the annual blanket drive this year by including additional items to their collection of blankets.

The additional items included warm clothes and winter accessories. The handover was held on June 2.

The charities that were selected to receive the collected items included the St George’s Home in Kempton Park, selected by the Coalition of Anglican Children’s Homes (COACH) and the Johannesburg Children’s Home in Observatory.

Coach is an organisation consisting of St Georges, St Nicolas and St Joseph’s Homes.

The home houses children from the age of six up until the age of 18 and 21, where necessary.

They deal with various component programmes to address specific issues ranging from therapeutic care, life skills, education as well as day-to-day life skills.

They are able to develop the children and their skills to cope in society, as well as progress academically to work towards a better and brighter future.

The Johannesburg Children’s Home provides a safe refuge for 64 children of all races who have been found in need of care by the Children’s Court.

Children are aged from three to 18 years. The children have suffered physical, sexual or emotional abuse, severe neglect or abandonment.

At the Johannesburg Children’s Home, they start a new life, living in cottages of up to 10 children under the care of child care workers.

They also have a Halfway House for older children, where they can live independently.

Ms Charmain Qofela, Greenstone Shopping Centre’s marketing assistant, said each charity received a share of 100 blankets, clothing of various sizes and accessories which included beanies, gloves, socks and shoes.
