Six nabbed following hijacking

Six suspects arrested for possession of stolen cigarettes and a stolen BAT vehicle.

Members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department’s (EMPD) SWAT Unit arrested six suspects at an Edenvale shop on June 1, following reports of a hijacking during which cigarettes were taken.

Robbers took off with a large amount of cigarettes during a hijacking in Alexandra.

The EMPD found the stolen cigarettes in the possession of the suspects and made the arrests at a shop in Van Riebeeck Avenue, Edenvale.

A British American Tobacco (BAT) vehicle was also recovered.

The Edenvale SAPS’ acting spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said the vehicle was reported as stolen last month in Kempton Park.
