Bogus cops rob real cops

Bogus cops strike - this time robbing real police officers.

Bogus cops robbed Jeppe police officers of their guns.

According to the Jeppe SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi, a sergeant and a constable attended to a domestic violence incident on May 28.

The pair attended to the scene, which was in 8th Street, Bez Valley.

While the constable was talking to the complainant, the sergeant responded to a police radio call.

“There was a report of a car hijacking on 9th Street. The sergeant responded and told the operator that he and his colleague would go and assist. While in the process of responding to the operator, a black Audi stopped behind their van. Five men wearing what looked like police bulletproof vests and helmets jumped out. The suspects pointed firearms at the officers and forced them to lie down. They searched them and took two Z88 pistols, one R5 rifle, 65 live rounds, one hand radio and a pair of handcuffs,” said W/O Munyayi.

He said the sergeant was also assaulted.

“The suspects locked the officers inside their van before they fled the scene. The sergeant called for assistance using his cellular phone,” he said.

W/O Munyayi said the sergeant is recovering and the constable did not sustain any physical injuries.

He confirmed that the black Audi used during the incident was hijacked on 8th Street.

The Audi was later discovered abandoned in Booysen.

Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects is urged to call the Jeppe SAPS on 011 624-6000 or 624 6060.
