Hazel nears the final stretch in Ten10 Challenge

Today at 5am, Hazel kicked off the second last day of the Ten10 challenge with tomorrow’s Comrades Marathon being the last distance she aims to complete.

Animal lover and Bedfordview resident, Hazel Moller, dedicated her time to run the Ten10 event in aid of the Pet Empowerment in Townships (PETS) organisation. She aims to complete this challenge with tomorrow’s Comrades Marathon being the last distance to complete.

The NEWS previously reported that Hazel and fellow runner Michelle Mareë share a passion for the work done by PETS.

Hazel and Michelle previously said they hope to raise R100 000 in aid of PETS by completing 10 Comrades distances in 10 consecutive days from May 22 to 31 with the final distance being tomorrow’s Comrades Marathon.

It effectively entails running 90 kilometres every day for 10 days.

The start of the women’s Ten10 venture was on Friday last week from the running club in Bedfordview.

Fellow runner, Michelle, withdrew after the first three days but joined Hazel again after another three days.

The Ten10 programme raised R80 000 last year for PETS.

Both Hazel and Michelle support the organisation as it sets out to provide pets in townships with better care, as well as to provide pet owners in townships with the necessary education and means to care for their pets.

On Friday, the eighth day of Hazel’s Ten10 venture, her husband Chris Moller told the NEWS his wife is in great physical condition.

“But there is a lot of mental struggle she has to conquer. Her main objective now is to get to Durban for the start of the Comrades,” Chris said.
