Care centre’s water problems resolved

Ron Smith Care Centre residents will no longer have to worry about water supply interruptions.

Ron Smith Care Centre residents will no longer have to worry about water supply interruptions.

Ms Helen Petrie, the head of the Ron Smith Care Centre and the Elphin Lodge Retirement Village, said the centre has installed JoJo water tanks with a combined capacity of 40 000 litres.

“The tanks are connected to the water reticulation system and will see the centre through any water interruptions.

“Many residents remember the inconvenience in December 2014, when the municipal water supply pipe to our property was washed away and water had to be carried in for personal use,” said Ms Petrie.

The water tank project cost R232 000 and was funded by the RAA Welfare Development Trust. The project was overseen by the assistant facilities manager, Mr John Switala.

An alarm system with SMS notification is also being installed to alert management when the centre starts drawing on its emergency water supply.
