MCS to discuss animal facts and fables

The Modderfontein Conservation Society (MCS) will host an animal behaviour facts and fables meeting on May 21.

The meeting will take place at the Modderfontein Town Hall, at 1 Casino Road at 7.30pm.

The presentation and talk will be conducted by Mr Neil Heron, a Kruger Park guide and ranger.

Animal behaviour is just one of the issues will be discussed at the meeting.

Why do zebras have stripes, do otters have webbed feet and can female monitor lizards reproduce without a male? These are examples of the types of questions that could be answered at the meeting.

Mr Heron, of Bearded Heron Safaris, is an Edenvale resident and has many years of experience in guiding local and international visitors in the Kruger National Park, an area in which he specialises. He is well known for his incredible and sometimes controversial insights, interpretations and bush skills when it comes to African wildlife and game viewing.

In addition to his talk, Mr Heron will also have copies of his ‘Facts and Faeces Birthday Calendar’ for sale.

This is an unusual, but informative ‘poop guide’, which features facts about the scat of different Kruger Park animals each month. The calendar has proved to be extremely popular and sells for R150, of which R30 is donated to the SANParks Honorary Rangers and the fight against rhino poaching in the Kruger Park.

Visitors are welcome to attend the meeting and the cost is R30.
