22 windscreen washers arrested

Those arrested for the first time were fined.

Nearly 22 men were arrested at the intersection of Albertina Sisulu and Marcia Street in Bruma in the past two weeks.

This is according to the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, Constable Mpho Mashakane.

She said some of those arrested had warrants of arrest pending against them for other crimes.

The arrested suspects appeared in the Jeppe Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of hindering and obstruction of traffic.

“Those arrested for the first time were fined R150. They will not be released until the fines have been paid. Those arrested for the second time, were sentenced to three months in prison,” she said.

Const Mashakane said the joint operation will continue until the intersection is cleared of windscreen washers.
