Colonel Pratt bows out

In his address, the Bedfordview Community Policing Forum (BCPF) chairperson, Mr Gavin Henry, wished Col Pratt well.

The farewell party of retiring visible policing head at the Bedfordview SAPS, Colonel Ausker Pratt, was not short of emotions and laughter.

Held at the Hellenic Cyprus Hall, the event was attended by, among others, Col Pratt’s wife, friends and station commanders from other stations within the Germiston cluster, as well as members serving at the station.

In his address, the Bedfordview Community Policing Forum (BCPF) chairperson, Mr Gavin Henry, wished Col Pratt well.

“I thank you for the great contribution you made in the fight against crime and wish you well. My advice, though, is that you keep fit,” said Mr Henry.

Recently retired detective head, Mr Jacobus Fourie, was among the speakers on the day.

“Go home and rest well. I know you will enjoy your time at home,” said Mr Fourie, a former Lieutenant Colonel.

Station commander, Colonel Sevha Shiburi, said he always aspired to be like Col Pratt.

“This man joined the police service in 1974, some years before I even started school. He has remarkable experience. We also thank his wife for supporting him and for lending him to us; we are happy to have had him among us,” said Col Shiburi.

He added that, “My advice to you is that you spend your money wisely and never stop exercising.”

Col Pratt thanked his fellow officers for the support shown to him during his time at the station. He said some of the highlights of his career was the day he became an officer.

“I’ve been in this job for 41 years and four months. I have served at 10 different police stations and I am proud to say I have served with honour,” added Col Pratt.
