Top cop continues to sniff out drugs

Bedfordview SAPS' officer Constable (Col) George Manala proves that drugs have no place in society.

The Bedfordview SAPS’ Constable George Manala proved that drugs have no place in society.

The winner of the Visible Member, as well as the Top Cop of the Year 2014 awards, continues to make strides in the fight against crime in the Bedfordview policing precinct.

In April 2015, Const Manala arrested, among others, nine people for drug possession and dealing.

Between April and August 2014, Const Manala made 90 arrests, most of which were drug-related.

“In April, I arrested 18 people, 10 of whom were in possession of drugs. In May, I made 23 arrests, 14 of which were drug-related. In June, I arrested 16 people, 12 of whom were in possession of drugs. Between July and August, I managed to arrest 33 suspects, 31 of whom were in possession of drugs,” said Const Manala.

The spokesperson for the Bedfordview SAPS, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said the station was proud of officers like Const Manala.

“It is amazing how he ‘sniffs’ out drugs from our streets and arrests those on the wrong side of the law,” he added.

Const Manala attributed his success to hard work and a positive attitude.

“I wake up every morning knowing I am going to serve, which makes me enjoy, and more determined, to do what I do to the best of my ability,” added Const Manala.

He added that he was not tempted by bribery.

“I think that’s one of the things many new recruits need to master when joining the service. Don’t get tempted. It will ruin both your career and life,” he said.

The station commander, Colonel Sevha Shiburi, said he warns officers on a daily basis during the morning parades against taking bribes.
