SAPS on high alert in CBD

Shops closed for business.

SAPS members are on standby as violence hit Johannesburg earlier today, when a group of locals reportedly attacked foreign nationals.
Shops are closed and many foreigners have expressed fear and are guarding their belongings.
The Jeppe SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, said no reports of violence have been reported in the Jeppe SAPS precinct.
The EXPRESS is also getting reports of a high police presence in the Jeppe area.
The Hillbrow SAPS Cluster communications officer, Constable Thabo Malatji, said the SAPS is on high alert but no confirmed reports of xenophobic attacks have been received.
“There are a lot of police officers and a huge police presence in Jeppe, but I have not seen any attacks,” a Jeppestown resident told the EXPRESS.
