Mindset, established by Nelson Mandela in 2003, focuses on preparing South African pupils for their future by providing educational support through its broadcasting platform Mindset TV and various digital touch points.

Mindset is committed to education as a mechanism that drives change.

Mindset, in partnership with Caxton, Safeways Publishing and Chevrolet, SA launched the Be a Bright Spark Competition in September 2014 on the back of Mindset Digital developing Safeways Publishing’s K53 android app.

“Developing this app was an exciting project for Mindset Digital, not only from a technical perspective, but also what this app represented from an education perspective” said Jerome Maggerman.

“Education for us is not only confined to what takes place in classrooms, but also what is currently taking place on South African roads. 45 people die on our roads daily and 90 percent of the accidents are as a result of driver error. We hope to use this competition to raise awareness about the importance of knowing the rules of the road and linking this to awareness to road safety and driver attitude and education.

“We are engaging with different stakeholders on cultivating partnerships that will galvanise our collective efforts in addressing the carnage on our roads.”

The Be a Bright Spark competition, which ends in November 2015, requires the purchase of the Safeways K53 manual or Safeways K53 android app, where customers stand a one in four chance of winning a Chevrolet Spark.

The first draw took place in November last year when Dimakatso Masake was the lucky winner of a Chevrolet Spark L.
