The Bruma Lake bridge must be kept in its original state.

This is according to the ward 118 councillor, Clr Mike Spadino, when asked about the latest developments regarding the Bruma Lake upgrade.

“Business people and the community complained about the smell coming from the Jukskei River. The the City of Johannesburg had to work on this. The refurbishing of the lake is nearing an end now and grass is being laid,” he said.

He added that during his visit to residents recently, the contractor was reminded that the bridge is important to the community.

“This bridge is one of the iconic features of the area. It has some sentimental value to most of the residents. It has been standing like this since the 1980s. As residents, we want the pillars and other parts of the bridge to be refurbished, but the originality of must be retained,” he said.

According to Clr Spadino, the smell which was bugging residents has decreased since the start of the developments to the area.
