Inyoni hosts art exhibition for residents

Inyoni Creek retirement village recently hosted an art exhibition and demonstration.

The Inyoni Creek Retirement Village recently hosted an art exhibition and demonstration.

The event saw residents from various Rand Aid complexes going along to view hundreds of craft items painted on ceramics, fabric, wood and canvas.

Ms Lesley Hogg, a well-known craft trainer and co-owner of the Creative Image craft and art painting studios, presented some of her own work and spoke about how her instructors can teach anyone to paint, even if they have never painted before or think they have no artistic ability.

“We organised this exhibition and demonstration hoping to create interest in art and painting, and to inspire and entice our residents at Rand Aid care centres and villages to learn how to paint. Painting is a wonderful activity where you can take a break from everyday life and get transported into another world of creativity, colour and images,” she said.

Rand Aid’s Manager for Recreational Programmes, Ms Debbie Christen, said she was impressed with Ms Hogg’s teaching methods.

“She specialises in beginners and emphasises that you are never too old to learn how to paint. Some of the residents are now keen to have a painting class at Inyoni Creek,” added Ms Christen.
