Service delivery woes frustrates councillor

Clr Carlos da Rocha expressed his disappointment about the lack of service delivery in ward 66.

Before leaving for an overseas trip recently, Clr Da Rocha said he contact Johannesburg City Parks management and expressed his disappointment at the lack of service.

On his return, Clr Da Rocha said the situation had shifted from bad to worse, with overgrown grass on the pavements and islands.

The EXPRESS visited several areas in Troyeville and Observatory, where Clr Da Rocha pointed out the areas where the grass and trees were overgrown, posing a potential hazard to residents.

“I was away for three weeks and when I returned there was no indication of service delivery in the area. Before I left for my trip, I requested that City Parks do a proper clean-up of the ward by cutting the grass and trimming the trees. There is no indication that any of this was done while I was away,” said Clr Da Rocha.

The City Parks spokesperson, Ms Jenny Moodley, said Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo has been systematically resolving its seasonal backlogs across all the wards in the city.

According to her, the work in ward 66 is ongoing and will continue.

“Meetings with Clr Da Rocha have been held to ensure that the priorities in ward 66 are resolved speedily, with the help of external contractors as well as the operations team based at Rhodes Park. Johannesburg City Parks acknowledges the patience displayed by residents in the area and assures residents that these seasonal concerns will be resolved by mid April,” said Ms Moodley.
