14 years in prison for murder

The sentencing took place at the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday, March 2.

A Yeoville man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for killing his girlfriend.

The sentencing took place at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, March 2.

The Yeoville SAPS communications officer, Constable Thabo Malatji, said Charly Mdluli stabbed his girlfriend several times next to the corner of Raleigh and Fortesque roads in January this year.

“The couple had an argument and he stabbed her several times before he fled the scene. She was rushed to hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. Following an intense investigation, Mdluli was arrested and charged with murder,” said Const Malatji.

The Yeoville SAPS station commander, Colonel Motaung, thanked the investigating team led by Detective Constable Shihangule.

“The team did a sterling job in ensuring the suspect was convicted. This will serve as deterrence to criminals who want to commit the same offence. People will think twice before becoming involved in criminal activities,” said Col Motaung.
