Suspects arrested for possession of jamming devices

The Bedfordview SAPS arrested two men for possession of car jamming devices.

The spokesperson for the Bedfordview SAPS, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi, said one of the men was currently out on bail for similar charges.

The men were nabbed at one of Bedford Centre’s parking lots by a security guard who was on duty, Mr Dean Rathbone.

“The guard reported that while patrolling in the parking lot, he noticed the anti-jamming signal in the patrol vehicle was at four bars. He then drove towards the direction of the signal and noticed a black Mercedes Benz with two men inside it. On investigating further, the men tried to escape,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

On searching the vehicle, long, medium and short range jamming devices were found.

Sgt Nhlabathi encouraged motorists to make sure their cars are locked after activating the locking mechanism with the remote control.

“Others do check, but after walking a few meters from the car, they press the remote again; this should not be done,” said Sgt Nhlabathi.

According to Sgt Nhlabathi, one of the suspects is linked to a similar case involving an Audi TT in Bedfordview Central.
